"I have paddled the Du Moine River. But I knew nothing about this extraordinary river and its watershed until I read Wally Schaber's fabulous The Last of the Wild Rivers. Exhaustive, detailed, informative and fun, it is both the story of a river and of the people of the river, from First Nations to canoeing icons Bill Mason and Pierre Trudeau. Wally himself is a legendary guide; now he guides you smoothly and seemingly effortlessly through the very history of Canada." Roy MacGregor, author of Canoe Country
From the Publisher Wally Schaber, for almost half a century, has been guiding canoe clients down the wild Rivière du Moine and collecting stories about the history of the watershed and its gateway village, Rapides des Joachims. The author’s words, supplemented with photos and maps, guide us on a Du Moine River trip through the past, present, and future.
