This freeride touring ski pairs a poplar and caruba Ultra Light Woodcore with the HRZN 3D tip, so it climbs efficiently without ever feeling flimsy on the way down. The FreeTour Profile and Powder Rocker shape give it a pronounced tip and tail with camber underfoot, which means the tips stay up and floaty in fresh snow while the ski still holds an edge when you hit variable chop or firmer runouts lower down. It skis with a soulful, playful feel that rewards long tours into the backcountry, whether you are booting up for a dawn patrol lap or spending a full day exploring new zones. Atomic built this generation with more wood and less fiberglass, metal, and resin, cutting material-based CO2 equivalent emissions along the way, so the mountain adventure comes with a lighter footprint too. Developed alongside Austrian backcountry skier Matthias Haunholder, the Backland 102 is happiest when the terrain gets big and the tour gets long.
