A great customer experience comes from the knowledge and advice our sales associates can provide and the relationships that they create. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Greets customers and creates a welcoming shopping atmosphere
  • Delivers exceptional customer service to everyone who comes into the store

The Paddle Sports, Camping and Ski Department Head is responsible for the management of product, staff and displays within their department. This position involves helping the Store Managers to analyze sales and develop action plans to drive top line sales. Other responsibilities include; ensuring the individual and collective skills of the team are utilized effectively, and both the staff and customer experience is positive.   • Assisting in operations:
    • Assisting the Store Managers in opening and closing the store
    • Consistently creating a welcoming environment for the customers by greeting and assisting; as well as quickly responding to customer inquiries and needs
    • Demonstrating desired behaviors for staff including driving sales, handling difficult and/or complicated sales, complaints, cash management, inventory, and follow-up with customers within the department
    • Assisting the Store Managers with providing a strong leadership presence and control in store, while ensuring that all customers receive good service and quality merchandise
    • Helping develop action plans to improve performance
    • Helping the Store Manager in identifying training needs and providing ongoing training opportunities to the staff as needed
    • Motivating and inspiring others to work towards achieving objectives
    • Ensuring company standards are always met for store and staff
    • Performing thorough daily walk-throughs of the department and overstock area to identify operational gaps, missing products, and other areas needing improvement
  • Departmental tasks
    • Delegating tasks to staff and ensuring tasks are completed daily
    • Communicating with manager on scheduling needs
    • Ensuring all pricing, signage, and displays are correct at all times
    • Stocking the sales floor daily
    • Enforcing all company policies and procedures, including health and safety, security, and company standards

    • Marking sold boats properly with a name and invoice number and contacting customers for quick pick-ups with weekly follow up calls if needed
    • Managing an efficient organizational system for boat pickups
    • Managing boat inventory within the store and ensuring all boats in stock are appropriately displayed on the floor
    • Ensuring the department is clean and organized daily
    • Identifying and reporting inventory discrepancies immediately upon discovery
    • Ensuring any department overstock areas are kept clean and tidy and making sure all product is represented on the floor
    • Merchandising the department in a logical way; no empty pegs, categories are together, and stock is full
  • Leading the department
    • Leading and motivating staff through delegating tasks, following up, handling customer inquiries and complaints and supporting the department
    • Creating daily lists for the department before morning meetings and following up with the list throughout the day; planning lists for days off and submitting them to the managers and following up on the next working day

    • Training new staff within the department on policies and procedures as well as knowledge on the products
